Nestled into leafy Mends Street is Atomic Espresso. This uncomplicated café opens at breakfast time and doesn’t close its doors until late afternoon, serving patrons with meals, snacks and drinks all day long. On any weekend morning you’ll find Atomic filled to the brim with cyclists from far and wide and walkers having just done the bridges, all of whom have understandably worked up an appetite. And although there is always a long queue at the counter, the staff are efficient and plentiful, and the kitchen delivers the fastest breakfast service I’ve encountered.
Menu options are wide ranging, covering the sweet, savoury, light and substantial quarters, without being overly adventurous; order from a huge selection of dishes and know exactly what you will be getting. If you, or your breakfast companion, are sick of pretentious dish titles, ingredients, and the prices that are often synonymous with this, then Atomic is the answer.
